Learn how to ease your frustrations by setting your desired format as the default for all tables. The most effective way to style a table in Word is by using a built-in table style. Maybe you have additional data you want to include or you need to remove content which you have already added. Drag the cursor over the squares to specify the number of columns and rows you want to create. Click on the Insert tab, and then click the Table button on the ribbon. Once you have a table included in your document you will more than likely want to add or remove rows and columns as needed. You can create a basic Microsoft Word table in one of two ways: Method 1. Here you can add new rows or columns, delete them, adjust the sizing, distribute your rows and columns evenly, adjust text alignment and so on. The Layout tab features everything to do with the structure of the table. Things like table styling, shading and border settings can all be customised on this tab. ![]() The Table Design tab features all the settings you can adjust to make the table look how you want it. One click outside the table area and these two tabs will disappear. These new tabs, named Table Design and Layout, are only visible on the Ribbon when you have your cursor inside the table area.Ī lot of people find these tabs disappear on a regular basis, so it is important to watch where you click your mouse. ![]() A table is one of the features which displays 2 x new tabs on the ribbon. Table Design and Layout tabsĪn important part of using tables in Word is the ability to customise them. Under Properties group, give the Name for the style, apply the appropriate format changes and click Ok. Note down the name and you’re ready to create the macro. Hover the mouse cursor over the table style you want to apply to all tables, and a tool tip will tell you what it’s called. Click inside a table and then go to the Design tab on the Table Tools tab. Under the group Table Styles click on the arrow mark pointing downwards and select New Table Style. Open the Word document that you want to change the table styles for.
